Project Summary

The project aims at understanding the significance of urban khazans in addressing climate change and food security and development of an urban khazan management plan.

The project will have the following outputs:

  • A strategy and action plan for urban khazan management which will have scope for replication in other coastal urban areas in the region.
  • A geo-referenced map of the khazan lands in and around Panaji.
  • A time series analysis of the change in khazans in and around Panaji for the last 20 years.
  • One peer-reviewed journal publication on significance of khazans in building climate resilience of urban areas.
  • IEC materials on urban khazans

The specific research questions are:

  • What is the present condition of khazans in and around Panaji?
  • What threats do the urban areas pose to the khazans in and around Panaji?

Why is mainstreaming khazan management and conservation necessary for sustainable urban development and how can the same be achieved?
